Pisces Full Moon and Partial Eclipse

A partial lunar eclipse in a starry sky

How have your dreams been lately? Do you feel especially volatile? Have your emotions been overwhelming and intense?

If so, you may be entitled to financial compensation.

Just kidding- but there's definitely a reason for this.

The Pisces full moon and partial eclipse on September 17th is bringing with it emotional upheaval and unveiling of truths. It is never recommended to manifest during an eclipse, because the energy is volatile and results can be skewed. So what should you do instead?

Partial Eclipse

Eclipses are known to be life-changing. They illuminate the things we’ve got in the dark or would rather leave in the dark. The last time we had a lunar eclipse in Pisces was on September 16, 2016. Think back to what was occurring for you around that time, as there could be related themes coming up now.

This eclipse serves as the bridge between last year’s eclipses and the eclipses that will take place in 2025. This means the themes present now will follow through to the spring. It is important to tune in and listen to what this eclipse is telling you- if we resist the lesson, it will likely cause turmoil and inner chaos.

This lunation is very similar to the Hanged Man in tarot- suspension in time, dysregulation for the sake of new perspective. So what do you do? Go easy on yourself. Slow down. Give yourself the space to feel and hear what the universe is sharing with you. Invite yourself to replenish your energy (physical, mental and spiritual), pray and rest, and observe what's happening inside and around you. Resist the urge to make sense of and analyze what comes to the surface, there will be time for that later.

Full Moon in Pisces

Full moons are always an opportunity to release what we no longer need and what may be preventing us from growing or healing. There is specific emphasis on this due to the partial eclipse.

Consider what your goals are currently, or what you may be struggling with. Using meditation, journaling or affirmations to release these inhibitions is encouraged.

Each full moon is an opportunity to review the relationship with whatever sign the sun currently is in. This full moon is on the Pisces-Virgo (as we are in Virgo season) axis, and there is a lot of emphasis on the balance between extremes. Pisces is dreamy, intuitive and fluid while Virgo values structure and intellect. Check the houses where Pisces and Virgo are to see where you can benefit from balancing out.

If you have been feeling rigid lately, experiment with new meditations or methods of. Water rites, ecstatic dancing and art forms are especially Piscean and can bring a person into a meditative state.

If you've been feeling ungrounded, take the time to ground into your body. Stand under the moon or in a nearby window and imagine you are a tree. Feel your roots grow deep into the ground and your arms sway above you as branches. Do this until you feel stable and steady.

Harvest Moon

Traditionally, this moon falls closest to the fall equinox, or Mabon. There is an emphasis on expressing gratitude, enjoying our “harvest” and beginning the slowdown to winter. Community and family begin to come together and we take time to make our space cozy and ready for winter.

This moon rises and falls each day around the same time for several days, which has historically given farmers more time to collect their crop for the day, a necessary help as winter approaches. This is applied symbolically now by preparing and decorating the home, spending time baking and cooking soups, breads, pies and casseroles, and taking time with loved ones.

Conclusion

The specific action you take will depend on your chart and the areas of your life that need attention. Whatever they are, do not ignore them. Even if it's difficult, it's important to “purge” what we don't want to carry into next year’s Spring and make room for blessings and introspection.

Use the energy of the full moon to support this release by performing a water ceremony, journaling under the moon, and incorporating moon water into your cooking or cleaning. Sit with uncomfortable feelings and then give them to the moon. If you write down the things you want to remove from your body or life, using running water is a great way to “finish” a release, as the water will wash them away.

Express gratitude for the things you want as if you already have them, either out loud or in written form. If you write them, burying your thoughts into the ground or a potted plant gives them the energy to “grow” into reality.

Take your time when making decisions, and be gentle with yourself. Pay special attention to your dreams, and journal any that feel relevant. Pisces loves to show up in the subconscious.

If you are seeking support and community of a group, see our events page for the next ceremony. We are hosting a Harvest Full Moon ceremony on September 17th. So mote it be!
